Streams, rivulets overflow as Significant rain Lbs Valparai

Coimbatore: Heavy rain lashed Valparai on Monday night, inducing rivulets and streams to overflow.
The mountain city was getting intermittent rain for the last couple of days along with the drizzles lasted Monday too.
However, the showers got thicker as the afternoon progressed and from day heavy rain began beating the hills.
The showers, followed by powerful winds, lasted until midnight.
By dawn, waterbodies from the hills were complete and Akkamalai test dam, the principal drinking water supply for Valparai, began overflowing and draining to Karumalayaru.
As jungle flows were flowing complete, Chinnakallar reservoir also obtained excess water and also 748 cubic feet of water had been introduced into Sholayar dam, the water level of that climbed by 7ft per day to 57ft, contrary to its whole potential of 160ft.
According to Tuesday afternoon, the reservoir has been getting 960 cubic feet of waterout of that 429 cubic ft has been introduced to Parambikulam dam.
Amaravathi dam in Tirupur also saw its inflow rise to 974 cubic ft, forcing the water level around 74.5ft.
The hefty showers brought down the temperatures in Valparai by many notches and individuals decided to remain indoors after dark.
Downhill Pollachi also had obtained showers at nighttime.
Nirar recorded the greatest rainfall of 81mm at the 24 hours which ended on Tuesday afternoon, followed closely by Kil Nirar (60mm), Valparai city (46mm) along with Sholayar (40mm).
Pollachi obtained 22mm rain.
