Street vendors and mandi, metro workers to get jabs

Gurgaon: The health department is mapping out a plan to vaccinate street vendors, workers at vegetable markets and people working at metro stations in the city against Covid-19 soon.
Around 1,600 street vendors are registered with the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).
The health department is collecting data regarding people working in mandis.
These people are among those who come in contact with hundreds of people every day and hence are susceptible to the virus.
As Gurgaon doesn’t have a steady supply of vaccines at present, the department hasn’t yet decided on when they will implement these plans.
“We have a blueprint to vaccinate people who are working in metro stations.
First, we will inoculate people working at the Huda City centre station and thereafter those in other metro stations of Gurgaon,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
He further said, “For street vendors and vegetable markets across the city, we have already asked private hospitals to adopt the nearest market area and set up a camp for these people.
We will also take MCG’s help in compiling data.” The CMO added, “All this depends on the availability of vaccines.
We will start vaccinating them as soon as we are assured of a steady supply of doses.” Meanwhile, with an aim to vaccinate more people at the earliest, the health department on Friday directed all private hospitals to conduct a 24X7 vaccination drive for the 18-44 population.
“For this, recipients will have to book appointments online,” Yadav said.
Several private hospitals welcomed the move and said that they are starting 24X7 vaccinations from Saturday.
“We will start round-the-clock vaccinations on Saturday.
Slots will be available on the Co-WIN portal for appointment,” said Dr Ritu Garg, zonal director of Fortis, Gurgaon.
There are three auto unions in Gurgaon for diesel, petrol and CNG based autos.
All these unions will be roped in for the vaccination drive soon.
The health department has also sought data on the auto drivers in the city from them to plan vaccination camps in the coming days.
Market associations have also been asked to provide details of shopkeepers and workers.
