Jaipur: Twenty-three people, including 12 in Jaipur, were killed and 27 were injured in the incident of lightning strikes in Rajasthan, officials said on Monday.
Besides Jaipur, the death was reported from six of the other six districts – City, Jhalawar, Baran, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur and Tonk – According to the Disaster Management Department and assistance.
In a large tragedy in Jaipur, 12 people, most young people, were killed and 11 were injured in the incident of lightning strikes in an iconic watch tower near the Amber fortress, officials said.
Some of them took “selfies” in the watch tower, while others were on a nearby hill, they said, adding that those who were in the tower crashed on the ground when lightning reached Sunday night.
“Twenty-three people, including seven children, were killed in a lightning strike in seven state districts on Sundays and 27 injured,” said Anand Kumar, the main secretary, disaster management and the relief department.
He said the state government had released Rs 1.65 Crore to the district collector concerned for the help of ex-gratia to the dependents of the deceased and injured treatment.
According to the department, 16 livestock, including 11 goats, also died in lightning strikes and the numbers would likely rise.
