New Delhi: Part of Neurological Disorders that cannot be communicated and related to injuries such as stroke, headache disorders, and epilepsy against total disease loads have more than double – from 4% to 8.2% – in India between 1990 and 2019 , while the contribution of infectious neurological disorders is reduced during this period by three, new scientific papers published in the Lancet global health show.
This paper highlights aging as one of the main factors behind the increasing burden of non-communicable neurological disorders.
This paper is a collaborative effort between the Council of Indian Medical Research (ICMR), the Indian Community Health Foundation (PHFI), Institute of Health Metric and Evaluation (IHME) and a number of other organizations.
Stroke (37.9%), headache disorders (17.5%), and epilepsy (11.3%) are leading contributors to the burden of neurological expenses in India, with strokes has caused 6,99,000 deaths in India in 2019, which is 7.4% of the total deaths in this country.
Stroke also caused 68% of deaths from neurological disorders, followed by Alzheimer’s and other dementias (12%), and encephalitis (5%).
The total burden of neurological disorders because disorders that are not ostracized are 82.8%; 11.2% is caused by the communicant and 6% is a disorder related to injury, the paper said.
This paper underlines high blood pressure, air pollution, food risk, high fasting plasma glucose, and high body mass index as a leading contributor to neurological disorders.
“The emergence of risk factors related to diseases that cannot be communicated, as leading contributors to neurological disorders and disabilities produced in India, are not surprises.
This reflects the socio-economic transition and nutrition that has directed a shift in our epidemiological profile for the past 30 years, “said President Phfi K Srinath Reddy.
While infectious diseases contribute to the majority of total neurological disorders of the burden on children under the age of 5 years, non-communicable neurological disorders are the highest contributors in all other age groups.
Infectious neurological disorders including encephalitis, meningitis, and tetanus, while neurological disorders related to injury include traumatic brain injury and spinal bonial injury.
