BHAGALPUR: Family members of an 24-year-old boy, who’d died as a result of snakebite, needed to get rid of his own body from the Ganga in Kahalgaon ghat on Saturday if the’dom raja’ in Bhagalpur burning ghat reportedly demanded Rs 1 lakh for permitting them to do last rites in the ghat.
Domi Paswan, also a resident of Nawada Bazaar area in Banka district, had obtained the entire body of his son, Mithilesh Kumar, to the Bhagalpur burning ghat following the latter died in a hospital .
Even the’dom raja’ as well as many others in the ghat originally demanded Rs 1 lakh in the household to do the final rites.
They later settled for Rs 11,000.
However, because Paswan was not able to cover Rs 11,000, the household took the human body to Kahalgaon at a three-wheeler and maintained it of at the Ganga.
Owner of a lumber shop at burning ghat at Kahalgaon, Dilip Kumar Singh, said that the entire body tied using a banana tree had been disposed of at the midstream of the Ganga.
Deputy civil commissioner of Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation, Satyendra Prasad Verma, stated he does not have any information regarding the subject.
“Proper arrangements are made in the burning ghat.
My phone number is also on display in the ghat.
Nobody called me.
We’re collecting particulars and an inquiry will be ordered when desired,” Verma additional.
