Coimbatore: Two government school students here, who developed the technique to protect houses in flood-prone areas have been chosen for the 29th National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC).
M Nandhini, a grade VII student and L Manoj Kumar, a class VIII student, from Panchayat Union Middle School in Kalapanatickenpalayam, worried about the fate of people in the coastal district whose lives were reversed by floods every year.
“It is the Himalayan duty to regulate shelter and camp for flood victims.
This is a challenge to shift and move it.
In addition, it leads to stress and anxiety among the victims, and worse, loss of life and damage to property,” said Nandhini.
“We collect information about floods throughout the world in the past five years and analyze damage caused by men and material,” he told TI.
This project offers a common solution with a one-time investment, said Manoj.
“We have advised praceted houses that stand on four pillars.
The structure can be increased using hydraulic screw jacks during the flood.
This technique can also save livestock,” he said.
Science teacher R Anand Kumar guided the duo.
“They studied the structure of houses on the coast of Tamil Nadu and drew inspiration from flood-resistant homes in Kerala,” said the teacher.
The state-level science exhibition concluded at the Forest College and Research Institute in Mettupalayam on December 29.
