Florida: A new study has found patients with cancer that accepts chemotherapy – and some targeted therapies can install immune responses that are inadequate against Covid-19 vaccination.
This research has been published in the Mayo Clinic Process: Innovation, Quality & Journal of Results’.
“It is important for patients with cancer who receives chemotherapy to receive Covid-19 vaccines,” said Chumsri, M.D., a hematological and oncologist of the Mayo clinic, and paper writer.
Dr.
Chumsri said this suggestion was also applied to patients with cancer that took CDK inhibitors 4/6.
This inhibitor is a newer drug class that is used to treat positive hormones and negative breast cancer.
Dr.
Chumsri said that while CDK 4/6 inhibitors were not conventional as immunosuppresses such as chemotherapy, their research in patients with breast cancer that took this drug found that they showed less optimal antibody antibodies.
Dr.
Chumsri recommends that the antibody level must be tested in these patients after vaccination, and they must consider receiving booster vaccination for Covid-19.
Dr.
Chumsri anticipates having additional data later this year regarding wider immune response to Covid-19 vaccination, including cellular responses and antibodies in patients who receive chemotherapy and target therapy with booster vaccination.
