Study of protein explains the risk of heart disease

Thiruvananthapuram: Researchers at the Biotechnology Center of Rajiv Gandhi (RGCB) here have identified Cyclophilin A, a protein which is a player known in several human diseases, as the potential target of the drug to reduce the risk of heart disease in patients with diabetes.
“Patients with diabetes mellitus on an increased risk of vascular disease and vulnerable to broken.
Our research has shown that Cyclophilin A plays the main role in increasing risk, “said Dr.
Surya Ramachandran, a program scientist with cardiovascular disease and diabetes biology lab, RGCB.
The research findings have recently been published in cells, international biology journals.
Heart attacks It is produced from the outbraved of cholesterol plaque stored on the wall of the artery.
Tears or broken in plaques will activate the repair mechanism that results in blood clots.
Such lumps can completely block blood flow to the heart muscle and cause a heart attack.
Cyclophilin A inhibitors will have potential use in Reducing the vulnerability to heart attacks due to broken plaque.
This is also being developed as a clinical serological marker detecting vascular inflammation in patients with diabetes, he said.
RGCB Director Chandrabhas Narayana said the research findings in connection with the role played by Cyclophilin AKA n provides a better understanding of molecular mechanisms that underlie cardiovascular disease.
This will help in the detection of risks and the development of new pharmacological therapy.
“Protein Cyclophilin A damages the process of cleaning the fast and efficient cells that have been programmed to die, resulting in rapid development of plaque formation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus,” said Dr.
Ramachandran.
