Suhas Yathiraj Proves Academic & Sports Excellence Can Be Achieved

Chennai: Suhas Yathiraj underwent a philosophy ‘Sports helps you conquer yourself’.
And he lives with his own words by winning a silver medal at badminton in Tokyo Paralympics.
Significantly, his achievements also help destroy general stereotypes in India that do not equalize the superiority of sports with academics.
Yathiraj is an officer at Indian administrative service (IAS), after achieving success in one of the toughest examinations in this country in the first attempt.
In fact, candidates often sacrificed the year in pursuing excellence in civil service examinations and tried it several times.
Yathiraj passed in computer engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Karnataka in 2004.
Bright Yathiraj continued to clear the civil service test in 2006 and then began his career as an IAS officer in 2007.

“I think this (Tokyo Paralympics) medal is celebrated by everyone in this country.
The number of acceptances we get at New Delhi Airport (show),” said Yathiraj to Olympics.com.
“I think myths that studies and sports cannot be chased together have been damaged.
Many are surprised that someone can be good in study and sports.
Parents also want their children both in studies and sports.
They see studies as more stable options .
I think many young people can at least get the confidence to pursue both, “he added.
(Photo of PTI) The celebration at home around his achievements in the Paralympics medal also made him believe that the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics were the watershed moment for India because it helped develop sports culture.
“The amount of support, the love displayed by everyone is great.
There are times when celebrities in the country are used to be a movie star and only Cricketers,” Yathiraj said.
“But I think now, the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will be a moment of watershed in Indian history, because the number of praise and recognition is obtained by the Olympics and Paralympians.
I think it must warm my heart,” he added.
And badminton remains a spiritual experience for him.
However, he is very methodical in his approach to sports and likes to work in its important details.
“Badminton is meditation for me.
I am very methodical, I developed my attack skills, defense skills, my reach.
I worked carefully on that part and also how I would overcome the match.
I visualized the match in my head.
So, I did have a method Which gives me comfort while playing, “explained Yathiraj explained.

“I am not at all the person provided because of the administrative work I hold.
I deliberately distanced himself from social media because I did not see additional value through it.
I always believe that we should not go behind fame or money or whatever,” said Yathiraj.
Yathiraj, 38, also considered a silver medal in Tokyo Paralympics to motivate him to become a better one in Paris Paralympics in 2024.
