According to the police, the family of five who lived in Mgr Nagar in Kalmedu near Sakkimangalam in Madurai consumed toxic substances on Sunday.
While Jothika, 23, and his son Ritish, 3, died, his mother Lakshmi, 46, and Brothers Adhi, 16, and Sibiraj, 13, survived the suicide pact.
The question revealed that they took extreme steps as Lakshmi Nagaraj’s husband, a worker, who was a family breadwinner, died in December.
Jothika was also abandoned by her husband, and the family fell into depression.
A few days ago, Jothika tested positively, raising viral concerns and family livelihoods.
In a statement on Monday, the OPS said the Ministry of Health and Civic’s body personnel had suggested Jothika to be subject to quarantine at home and also sprinkled whitening powder around their homes.
The AIADMK leader said that the neighbor began to treat families indifferently, worsening his family’s mental state.
OPS said that in addition to the focus on treating those affected by the virus to help them restore and contain deployment, the government must also focus on mental health of people affected and their families because they will experience misery shown by neighbors.
He urged the government to understand the financial implications of the pandemic about such a family and help them.
Emphasizing that creating awareness is also the responsibility of the government, he sought special attention from the minister’s chairman regarding these aspects.
