Coimbatore: Puram Hospital All Coimbatore Women’s Police arrested Meera Jackson, a former principal of private matriculation school, from a hiding place in Bengaluru.
He was ordered under the protection of children from sexual violations (Pocso) acting because of his failure to report complaints of sexual harassment that a class XII student, who committed suicide at his home by hanging on Thursday, raised against his teacher.
A police team took him to the Puram RS police station on Sunday morning.
Parents, schoolmates and members of various organizations protested at the victim’s girl’s house on Saturday, demanding the arrest of the former principal at school.
The protesters said the former principal had failed to take tight action against Teacher, Mithun Chakaravarthy (31), based on the girl’s complaint and demanded school management to issue RS 50 lakh compensation to the victim’s family.
It should be noted that school management has transferred Meera to another school a few months ago.
A 17-year-old girl, a class XII student, committed suicide by hanging at her residence on Thursday night.
His parents and his friend Vaishnav Krishna accused a former private matriculation school teacher, Puram Hospital to harass the girl sexually on several occasions and conspire suicide.
The girl’s father filed a complaint with the police station all women RS Puram on Friday and the police registered a case against school teacher K Mithun Chakravarthy (31) from Lawley Road in Coimbatore.
He was ordered under Section 306 (suicide reduction) of the Indian criminal code and section 9 (L) (anyone who committed sexual violence in children more than once or repeatedly) read with 10 (punishment for sexual violence) from child protection Children from sexual violations (Pocso) acts.
He was arrested and returned in court detention.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family refused to receive a corpse after postmortem on Friday afternoon.
Family members said that they would accept the body only after the arrest of the principal.
The body was stored in Mourtuary of the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
The police source said that parents will soon accept the girl’s body.
