Nagpur: About 2,000 houses in Bezonbagh, Indora and Sudarshan Colony in North Nagpur did not get drinking water for the last four days in a row.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and private water operators – Orange City Water Private Ltd (OCW) has stopped the supply quoting that illegal connection.
Corporator Congress Sneha Nikose, BSP Corporator Mamta Sahare and several residents experienced ‘Jal Tyaag’ Agitation in front of the OCW office starting at 9:30 in the morning for three hours and then in front of the Office of the Minister of Guardian Nitin Raut at 5pm.
Members of AAM AADMI Party (AAP) filed a complaint against private operators with the Jaripatka Police Station on Saturday.
According to Nikose, 2,000 houses in the “three oldest regions in the city” draw water without meters over the past years of the old pipe.
“OCW puts a new pipe and gives a connection to houses that have water meters and the supply is cut off to the old pipe.
Thus, around 2,000 houses stop getting water,” said Nikose.
Corporator claims that 2,000 houses are ready to complete the formality and take water connections from new pipes.
“OCW demands RS6,000 for new connections, which is a large amount for these people.
The discussion is ongoing with NMC to provide installment facilities but the OCW supply is disconnected without intimacy,” he said.
Nikose also said that the expression had directed NMC officials to restore water supply within 24 hours.
“The staff contacted the minister who was not in the city and told him about this problem.
Raut also said that new connections will be given from new pipes before 30 November and RS6,000 payments can be done in the same three installments,” he said.
Nikose, Sauhare and the others end their agitation by having water after the direction of the exhibition for NMC officials.
NMC Superintending Engineer Manoj Talewar does not respond to TI calls and messages while OCW chooses not to comment on this problem.
AAP members in their police complaints accused that OCW stopped the water supply from the old pipe without intimacy to the people, leaving many families without drinking water.
