Surat: In an effort to stop suicides, the Surat city authorities have begun a programme of counseling individuals that have been rescued while trying to finishes livesFor this particular initiative, the town authorities have tied up by Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) along with also the Vandrevala Foundation, that are currently working on a helpline for emotional counselling.
At present, the counseling is completed in the counseling center at VNSGU.
City authorities have begun a campaign on interpersonal networking to generate awareness about its initiative.
“Our goal is to stop suicides.
Below this programme people may get help more than telephone or may elect for individual counselling.
We’re working to decrease the amount of suicides,” Surat police commissioner Ajay Tomar informed TOI.
He also held meetings with representatives of Vandrewala Foundation and specialist psychologist out of VNSGU while preparing for its programme.
The counseling started on Thursday.
Under that the current set up, any man rescued in a suicide bid by authorities is required for counselling together with his family .
Dr Bali Bhadani, counsellor in VNSGU, does the counseling of the person and their family separately.
“I’ve counselled six folks and all them had different problems.
As a counsellor I attempt to convince them they are significant for their loved ones and culture,” explained Bhadani.
“This is a fantastic initiative from the authorities where VNSGU can be encouraging the division,” explained Dr Rudresh Vyas, head of the psychology department in MTB Arts College.
