Letter: Next time you caught violating traffic rules, you will get recognition as a ‘champion.’ But it’s definitely not a tag that can be proud of.
For, the police will attach stickers to your vehicle that will read something like ‘no champion helmet’, ‘Side Champion’ or ‘no parking champion.’ In a new way to instill the need to follow the traffic rules, the city of the city’s police have it decided to mark an offenders with such stickers that would be difficult to remove.
This initiative was taken by the police as part of the ‘i-21’ campaign that began by the traffic police to create awareness of traffic regulations.
The police are targeting to identify 50,000 people who solve traffic rules in one month and the next sticker will be applied to their vehicle.
“Good quality adhesive will be used in stickers so they cannot be erased easily.
Even if violators remove them later, the police goals are presented because they are made to realize that they have damaged traffic rules,” said a police officer.
The police have identified three general violations – driving two-wheeled vehicles without helmets, parking in areas that are not designated and driving on the wrong side – for this drive.
“Violators will be declared a champion to violate the rules in these three fields where maximum violations are recorded.
These violations also lead to fatal accidents and through this campaign, we are trying to save valuable lives,” said Ajay Tomar, Commissioner of the City Police.
At the same time, the police will identify 2,000 people found following strict rules.
They will be given a hat ‘i-follow.’ These individuals will be given cards that will be labeled every time when the person is found following all the rules.
As many as 200 followers of traffic rules will be given trophies if they get five stamps on the card.
It should be noted that Diamond City is the first in this country to have a CCTV-based traffic publishing system launched in January 2013.
Along with the conscious campaign, the police will continue to collect fines from violators but the number of people who are punished will decrease.
“We hope that people follow the rules.
The police will receive residents’ assistance to create awareness and video they will be distributed through social media,” added Tomar.
