Gurgaon: When the monsoon hit Gurgaon this year in June, the city only received 17.2mm rainfall during the month – recording a 59% deficit.
In August, the city was in the ‘deficit’ category (41%) because there was only 114.3mm rainfall.
However, because of the busy rainy day in July and then in September, there is now a 47% surplus.
The IMD data shows that in July and September, 112% (379.2 mm) and 158% (228.2mm) Rain was recorded in Gurgaon.
Overall, this city has received 738.9mm rainfall this season, far more than normal (503.3mm).
Since 2015, this city has reported a normal or rainy deficit.
In 2020, it saw 507.5mm rain, which was 1% more than normal (503.3mm).
The city has a 43% rain deficit in 2019 and received 284.7mm rainfall against normal 503.3mm.
Monsun this year is very good to the city, which sees heavy rain for short spells.
Two days recorded a heavy shower.
The city saw 145 mm rain on July 19 and 64.2 mm on September 1, there were nine moderate rain days.
In particular, maximum rainfall was recorded in September, which had 14 rainy days, followed on July 12, nine in June and eight in August.
“Usually, we don’t see a lot of rain in September in this region.
But, the city received almost double normal this year.
This happens because the weather system often forms above Bay and Easterlies brings moisture to the region,” said RK Jenamani, a senior scientist at IMD.
According to IMD officials, his condition tends to be profitable for the commencement of southwest monsun withdrawals from several northwestern Indian parts around October 6.
“Changes in the wind pattern and reduction in moisture make it an advantageous condition for withdrawals.
There are still 5-7 days before the retreat from the NCR region begins .
As a result, shower passing in isolated places might be witnessed in several regions, “the official said.
Meanwhile, warm and hot conditions apply on Saturday.
The maximum temperature is recorded at 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 24.6 degrees Celsius – three notches above normal.
The moisture index is relatively oscillating between 80% and 91% during the day.
The weather department has expected a cloudy sky for Sunday with mercury floating between 24 and 34 degrees Celsius.
The city air quality index (AQI) slightly deteriorated on Saturday but still in the ‘moderate’ category for the second day in a row.
The overall AQI reading was at 118 against 102 Friday.
