Surveys started for the Metro train project

Coimbatore: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) began a land survey for the Metro Coimbatore train project using the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) on Monday.
Based on the comprehensive mobility plan for Coimbatore, five corridors have been identified to implement the project, a CMRL official told Ti.Chennai based in Prime Meridian Survey Private Limited was doing the first phase of the survey in three corridors.
Mumbai-based companies will prepare maps.
Detailed project reports (DPR) will be prepared after the survey ends.
“The DPR will be handed over to the government for approval.
After receiving approval and funding, further action including the tender will begin,” the official said.
The company Chennai will conduct a DGPS survey in 400 places in the three proposed corridors – UKKadam – Kaniyur, Kararampettai and UKKadam – said.
“Later, we will use a Lidar device, which will be repaired on the roof of the vehicle, to conduct topographic surveys.
We must complete two surveys before the first week of October,” he said.
“The survey report will be submitted to the Indian Rail Technical and Economic Service Rail (Rite).” The survey company uses the Trimble R8S device.
