NEW YORK: Elina Svitolina Fifth seed Ukraine beat the big winner twice Simona Halep on the US open on Sunday, advancing into the eighth grand slam quarter-final.
The Tokyo Svitolina Olympic bronze medal, left the WTA title in Chicago, stretched his victory with nine matches by sending Romania’s 12th seed 6-3, 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“Definitely a great match,” Svitolina said.
“I’m really excited.
I know how big a Simona fighters.
I have to bring my best match.
Definitely I’m happy with that victory.” Svitolina, who has not dropped a set of this week, made its deepest slam run into the open US semi-finals and Wimbledon.
Svitolina will play the next 16th seed, Angelique Kerber, who three grand slam titles including the US Open US, or 18-year-old Leylah Fernandez, who overthrew 2020 champions Naomi Osaka.
Seven of the top nine seeds of women reached the last 16 with Osaka and the Wimbledon champion at the top of Ashleigh Barty left early.
After the initial break exchange, Svitolina violated the wrong backhand in the eighth game and was held to claim the opening set after 34 minutes.
The former world number one Halep, Wimbledon Open and 2018 2018 champions, captured backhand to give Svitolina’s break for 2-1 but went back to the next match with a cross-cross-cross-cross-Cross winner.
Svitolina, a shy a week of his 27th birthday, went bankrupt to lead 4-3 when Halep captured backhand, adhering to 5-3 and bankrupt again for victory after 76 minutes when Halep gouged backhand.
“Definitely I have creded now,” Svitolina said.
Both seeds of Russia Daniil Medvedev will face the 24th seed England Daniel Evans for the quarter-final bed.

With only nine seeds among the last 16-men, this is the least seed to advance So far in a slam since nine in Wimbledon in 2013 and in the US Open since eight in 2005.

Alcaraz will be the youngest quarter of our youngest male finalists since Brazil Thomaz Koch in 1963.
The second seed Aryna sabalenka from Belarus, who made the best run to the July Wimbledon semifinals, will meet with the 15th seed Elise Mertens in the next match.
Mertens looked for the first quarter of the most openly.
Czech Eighth Seed Barbora Krejcikova, the ruling French open champion, will play the ninth seed of Spain Garbine Muguruza, a grand slam champion twice, at the first Grand Slam meeting of the top-10 WTA Open player.
The US Open is the only slam where Muguruza failed to reach the quarter-finals.
