New Delhi: In the movement that can change the dynamics of the online food delivery model in India, Swiggy is testing a ‘direct order’ service that will reduce the commission paid by the restaurant partner for orders or leads produced by the last.
This model will also see food delivery giant data sharing with restaurants based on confidentiality agreements.
It will not only help companies headquartered Bengaluru at peace with their vocal partners who have vocal on the steep commission charged by food delivery majors such as Zomato and Swiggy but will also provide a footing into the direct delivery system adopted by the restaurant.
As part of the Swigggy pilot project, a restaurant that produces direction itself can request Swiggy to meet orders, including online payments, tracking and shipping and as part of an agreement, Swiggy will forget the part of the commission.
“At present the restaurant that has adopted a direct delivery model must depend on different third-party service providers such as one for shipping and other for payment.
Swiggy, however, provides a convenience store,” said a senior industry executive.
