Enroute, the train has stopped in Kalay, Sanvordem-Curchorem, Chandor, Sao Jose de Area, Margao, Suravali, Majora, Cansaulim, Sancoale, and Dabolim.
Konkan Railway runs two trains Demu between Margao and Karwar.
General Manager, SWR, Sanjeev Kishore said that arrangements have been made to maintain this rake in Vasco itself and that men and materials are available for that purpose.
“Thus, Demu Rakes can be maintained at night when they are disabled in Vasco.
This will avoid movement for maintenance between Vasco and Verna, savings capacity too,” Kishore said.
SWR officials said that local short-distance commuter trains were very suitable to be the type of Demu because the train had a cabin driving at both ends and could be attached to both directions, thus eliminating engine reversal requirements at the terminal station, so it saves time.
In addition, the trainers provide more comfort for passengers with every car that has seating capacity of 105, 15 more than conventional coaches, SWR said.
The main source of fuel for the train is diesel.
The diesel engine moves the alternator and then feeds an electric motor.
Each coach has its own motive resource installed below, which allows the train to speed up and slow down quickly making them ideal for ply as a shuttle between the stations located at short intervals.
