Eugene: Sydney McLaughlin delivered a world record that hissed 400m to crush victory due to the Olympic and US field tracks that were disrupted the weather and trials of the field pulled close to the thrilling in Oregon on Sunday.
The last day of the 10-day meeting at Eugene was disturbed by a brutal triple-digit temperature that detonated Hayward fields with conditions such as furnaces and forced the organizers to postpone the afternoon event to night.
When the action was continued with a slightly cooler temperature on Sunday night, it was McLaughlin who stole the show, burning an amazing victory at 51.90sec after the epic battle with the rival of Dalilah Muhammad.
McLaughlin 21-year-old became the first woman who had ducked under a 52 second barrier after a tremendous tactical race against the Olympics and world champion Muhammad.
Muhammad – who had held the previous world record from 52.16sec after his victory over McLaughlin in the 2019 World Championship in Doha – was second in 52.42 seconds.
Anna Cockrell claims the third qualifying place at 53.70sec.
“I know since I woke up today that it would be a pleasant day,” McLaughlin said afterwards.
“This is one of the moments you dream and think and play in your head,” he said when asked what had gone through his mind after seeing the world record when he crossed the line.
“It was the final ‘I did it when and I will appreciate it for the rest of my life.” It is another classic duel between McLaughlin and Muhammad, which has dominated the 400m obstacle in the last season.
McLaughlin described its sustainable competition with Muhammad as “Iron Sharpens Iron.” “Only two great athletes who encourage each other to be better,” he said.
“There is no hostility, there is no feeling of hard, only two people trying to be the best.
We will not be able to have a record of this world back and forth without each other.” Meanwhile Muhammad said he expected McLaughlin to challenge his record after impressive in heat – but warned he was sure to make improvements in his own time at the Tokyo Olympics next month.
“I certainly see it coming.
He looks very good at his chest,” Muhammad said about McLaughlin’s time.
“I think there is still more for me and Tokyo will be good for me,” added Muhammad, the pre-season was disturbed this year after he caught Covid-19.
In another final action on Sunday, there was a striking return to form by rule the world of 200 m Noah Lyles champion on his favorite show.
Lyles had struggled in the 100m final last week, and had left the 17-year-old Erriyon Knighton Prodigy in the 200m opening round.
But the 23-year-old floridian charismatic roared back to the best in the final, storming the line in the world’s leading 19.74SEC, in front of Kenny Bednarek at 19.78sec.
Knighton was third on 19.84sec to book his place in Tokyo.
Lyles said the relaxed approach had helped him fulfill the performance of his best trial when it was important.
“I stopped emphasizing, I let my body do what happened,” he said.
“I asked for a lot in the predecessor – I just thought ‘more’, but today I just thought ‘flowing – let it flow, let’.” I was tired of emphasizing, tired of fighting – just let everything come.
“There is another world’s leading world final in 800m, when MU’s 19-year-old people destroyed the field to win in 1 minute 56.07sec, the fastest time in the world this year.
It’s a teenager star, which only changes professionals earlier this month, always controlled and then putting it down waste for his rival with a devastating kick for a house that saw it finished a few meters from Raevyn Rogers in 1: 57.66.
Ajee Wilson was third in 1: 58.39 three beds for Tokyo because he had not made a standard Olympic entry for 1,500 M this season.
