Geneva: Syria is still unsafe for the return of the refugees a decade after the conflict began, the US war crimes investigator said on Tuesday, documenting violence and violations of deterioration, including arbitrary detention by government forces.
The United Nations Investigation Commission on Syria said the overall situation was increasingly gloomy, noting hostility in several regions in a broken country, the economy collapsed, drying the river basis and an increase in attacks by militants of the Islamic State.
“A decade of entry, the parties in the conflict continued to commit war crimes and war crimes against humanity and violate Syrian basic human rights,” said Chairman of the Commission, Paulo Pinheiro said, releasing the 24th report.
“Syrian civilian war continues, and it is difficult for them to find security or safe shelter in this war-hit country.” Arbitrary detention incident and did not communicate by government forces continued, the report said.
“The Commission continues to document not only torture and sexual violence in detention but also custodian deaths and forced disappearances,” said press release.
The war, which spun due to rebellion on the government of President Bashar al-Assad, triggered the largest refugee crisis in the world.
Syrian neighbors host 5.6 million refugees, while European countries host more than one million.
Refugees in several countries faced pressure to return.
While Assad has recovered most of Syria, important areas remain out of its control: Turkish forces are deployed in most north and northwest – the main fortress of the last anti-Assad rebels – and US forces are placed in the east and east of controlled Kurdery.
.
Commissioner Hanny Megally said there was a “return of siege and tactics such as siege” in the southwest Syria – the area where Russian-supported government forces compiled a campaign to breathe nails held in the city of Deraa.
Covering the year until the end of June, the report also recorded an increase in hostility in the northwest, said the market, residential areas and medical facilities had been beaten from the air and land, “often indiscriminately, causing many civilian casualties”.
At least 243 people were killed or defective in seven car bomb attacks in the cities of Afrin rebels and Ras Al-Ain in the north of Aleppo, although the full victim was much higher, he said.
The report criticized the Islamic group that controled the Idlib, Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, for imposing restrictions on the media and freedom of expression, said it had arbitrarily resisting media activists and journalists including women.
It also criticizes internention that violates the law of thousands of women and children held with alleged Islamic state relations in camps in the regions controlled by the US-backed Syrian democracy forces, by saying they have no legal roads.
They have “left struggling alone in conditions that may amount to cruel or inhuman care”.
