T20 WC: Holder Windies Out of Semis Race After Loss

Abu Dhabi: Defending Champion West Hindions was removed from the semi-final race at the T20 World Cup after a 20-run loss to Sri Lanka here on Thursday because their aging stars failed to recreate past miracles.
Going into the game with two losses in three matches, West Indies always opposed it and Sri Lanka issued them by collecting 189 for three on a good batting surface.
Pathum Nissanka (51 OFF 41) and Charith Asalanka (68 OFF 41) scored half a little century to give Sri Lanka to hand.
West Indies can only reach 169 for eight despite the unbeaten Shimron Hetmyer of 54 balls.
Scorecard | Tableleg-Spinner Points Wanindanga Hasaranga once again starred in the ball, took two net for 19 running in four overs.
West Indies, who have won two of the last three world titles, are now mathematically out of competition with two points from four matches.
Their last match was against Australia on Saturday.
Battery Sri Lankan was played with freedom and talent to set a frightening target that proved too steep for West Indies, which could never recover from a bad start to pursue chasing.
For Sri Lanka, it was their first victory from Stage 12 Stage and they went home with hope for a bright future.
The western Indian campaign that was forgotten showed the need to look out of great drinks like Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo while rebuilding before the 2022 edition.
Gayle’s struggle in the tournament continued and he was the first to leave for West Indies.
Pacer Binura Fernando moved Gayle and Evin Lewis to the second to give extreme pressure on the opposition.
Nicholas Moran (46) and Hetmyer fought well but the goal at regular intervals made West Indies always miss the pursuit.
Previously, in the form of Nissanka and Asalanka enjoyed batting on the surface.
Nissanka played several outrageous blows on the way to the third century of the tournament.
If the switch was hit not thick enough, the opening walked across the stump into the Ravi Rampaul whip towards the back foot for the limit.
Asalanka also crashed into a noble half a century and one of the highlights of the innings was a straight slog swept Dwayne Bravo for six people.
With no harm, Sri Lankan dough played with their promising potential and made the West Indies attack look pedestrian.
They also show that the future of Batting Sri Lanka is in capable hands and with more experience at the highest level, they will only get better.
Sri Lanka made 48 for one in PowerPlay with the loss of a perera, which played well for 29 of the 21 balls.
Andre Russell took a brilliant catch to fire him.
Nissanka and Asalanka then gathered and with free strokes flowing freely, placing West Indies attacks under extraordinary pressure.
After the dismissal of Nissanka, Asalanka went ballistic.
On the 18th ended, he was broken to Bravo for six before smoking on the head of the Bowler for the limit.
