LONDON: UK Ukire Michael Gough has been withdrawn from the lead in the T20 World Cup which was ongoing for six days and was placed under quarantine for alleged violations of bio-bubbles, according to a report.
A report in ‘The Daily Mirror’ stated that the former Durham Batsman, is considered one of the best referees in the current international match, asked to step down by the Bio-Security ICC committee following a violation of Covid bubble in the UAE.
Sanctions came after Goil reportedly left the hotel without permission on Friday to meet people outside the tournament bubble.
“The Bio-Security Advisory Committee has instructed referee Michael Gough to isolate for six days because of a violation of the Bio Security Protocol event,” the ICC spokesman who was quoted by the newspaper.
Gough is because of leading games on Sunday between India and New Zealand in Dubai but withdrawn following his violations and was replaced by Marais Erasmus in South Africa.
He is now limited to the hotel room and is being tested every alternative day.
If he came out cleanly in a test during Karantine six days, Gough was expected to continue his duties, but it was still unclear whether the ICC sanctions calmed him in the future for his actions.
