Tag Bengaloo Misses ‘Water Plus’

Certification is given to cities that have provided sanitation for all by ensuring no wastewater that is not treated out in the open
Nine cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Letters and Hyderabad were awarded ‘Water Plus’ certification by the Ministry of Housing Union and urban affairs.
Bengaluru did not display in the list released recently as part of the Mission Swaph Bharat and Swachh Survekshan.
However, the city managed to maintain its ranking in the free defecation (ODF).
Three local agencies of urban areas from Andhra Pradesh such as Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and Tirupati Municipal Corporation have been certified as ‘water plus’.
Chandigarh and indore are among nine cities.
‘Water Plus’ certification is given to cities that have provided sanitation for all by ensuring no waste water that is not treated out in the open.
This assessment also reviews the best practices adopted by cities in safe disposal, safe cleaning of sewer and septic channels using mechanical equipment, adequate capacity of wastewater treatment and waste among other facilities.

Water expert MN Thippeswamy said the water supply and board of sewerage Bengaluru (BWSSB) failed to match the requirements of the city.
“For the past 4-5 years, there hasn’t been a lot of development work done by BWSSB.
Many cities have succeeded in providing 24×7 water supply, displaying progress in wastewater management and water conservation.
Even countries with GDP are far lower than we have Decreases without counting for water, “he said.
Since 4-5 years, there are not many developments work carried out by BWSSB-M n Thippeswamy, water experts
BWSSB officials are not happy with the results.
“The BBMP must participate in the survey.
We have the highest number of waste treatment plants in this country treat around 900 million liters per day (MLD) waste.
About 30 percent of the water treated supplied to neighboring cities for the purpose of irrigation.
10 percent are used for purposes that cannot be taken.
In addition, we have increased the number of jetting machines up to 178, “the officer explained.
Bengaluru lost the title ‘water plus’ for the following reasons: BWSSB has less than 25 percent of the safety kit needed to cleanse the sewers and septic tanks.
It does not have sufficient capacity to clean vehicles and jetting machines and non-recovery costs spent on operating and maintaining STPS.
BBMP maintains ODF ratings
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), who was awarded ODF ++ last year, got the same rank this year.
As many as 3,304 cities throughout the country have been certified as ODF + including Bengaluru.
While ODF + focuses on toilets with water, maintenance and cleanliness, ODF ++ focusing on toilets with mud and septage management.
