Taipei: Taiwan President Tsai Ing – Wen received his first dose of the Coronavirus vaccine developed domestically on Monday, launching his launch to the public.
Vaccines, made by Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corp, were given an emergency approval by regulators in July using shortcuts that push fierce opposition from parts of Taiwan’s medical and scientific community.
Taiwan regulator passes a large, long-term study study which is usually used to approve vaccines.
Instead, they compare the level of antibodies that can be produced by the Medigen vaccine with astrazeneca vaccines, which have been approved by many governments and have experienced three full-stages of clinical trials.
Vaccine the medigen protein subunit two doses use a piece of coronavirus to teach the body to install an immune response.
The decision to give approval based on a new standard encourages an expert from the Advisory Committee on the vaccine to resign.
The critics say the approval before completing a full clinical trial does not provide adequate information about how effective vaccines in the real world are protecting from Covid-19, although initial studies may have promising results.
The level of antibodies in the blood is known to be correlated with the protection of the disease, but scientists do not know what the exact level is.
Regulators say Medigen will be asked to submit real-world data properties in one year of approval.
They said when approving the vaccine that the data provided by Medigen showed that it produced 3.4 times the level of neutralizing antibodies as astrazeneca vaccines.
Tsai received his first dose of vaccines on Monday morning at the Gymnasium at the Taiwan National University in Taipei.
Like other patients, he checked in for his appointment by revealing his national health insurance card into a computer system.
After a nurse gave him a shot, he flashed the ok sign with his hand.
On Friday, 40% of the 23 million Taiwanese population had received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
The island vaccination policy is to prioritize the first shot, with only high-risk groups that initially get two full doses, such as medical workers.
It was a big leap from May, when less than 5% of the population had received a vaccine.
Taiwan mostly remained free from Covid-19 for a year and half as long as the pandemic until the plague was driven by the alpha variant spread on the island in May, pushing large-scale locking.
At that time, Taiwan only received around 700,000 doses of vaccines that had been purchased.
However, it can get around 5 million vaccines donated by Japan and the United States.
