Ranchi: District administration has begun looking for a place to establish a house to take refuge for the transgender community in the city, which can be said to be the first by this district administration.
Speaking with Toi on Tuesday, Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Vishal Sagar said they had identified four places in the capital but still in the process of completing the place.
He also held a meeting in this Monday with the district social welfare officer and Divyam Dream Foundation, a local NGO that worked for the cause.
The official stated that this project was the idea of Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan to provide all-round support for the transgender community in their war against social stigma and live life with dignity.
“We strive to prepare a shelter at the beginning.
We have identified about four locations but still to complete one for this purpose.
The initial obstacles we now face are certain types of resistance from several locals in the area because of social stigma.
But we hope zero -in in the location immediately, “said Sagar.
Then on the extensive layout of the shelter, he added, “this will be a place where members of the Transgender community can live in a decent environment and also pursue several vocational courses / skills to get their livelihoods.
