Gurgaon: MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on Wednesday issued an order directing all executive engineers’ in-charge of civil, electrical and horticulture division to submit a plan to remove water from areas prone to flooding, especially underpasses, during monsoon.
The commissioner in his order said that the executive engineers should draft a plan for deployment of pumps based on their past experience of addressing the problem in the city.
Fixing responsibilities, Ahuja in his order has given the responsibility to monitor the flood control and dewatering operations to the chief engineer and superintending engineers as per their jurisdiction.
Moreover, all joint commissioners will be the nodal officers for the implementation of flood control measures in their zones and additional commissioner-4 will be the overall controlling officer.
“Executive engineer of the concerned area under their jurisdiction will be responsible for making all arrangements for the procurement, deployment and timely working of de-watering pumps.
They shall ensure that adequate staff is deputed for the proper and timely functioning of pumps,” read the order issued by the MCG commissioner.
Ahuja on Wednesday also directed the MCG officials to make necessary arrangements so that the city does not have to face the problem of waterlogging and flooding during monsoons.
The directions were given in a meeting of the MCG and GMDA officials chaired by the MCG commissioner on Wednesday.
GMDA informed Ahuja about the 79 waterlogging-prone areas which were flooded in 2018-19.
The officials told the commissioner that 35 out of these 79 areas could still face the problem and the remaining sites have been fixed.
The officials said that the drainage system of the city goes from eastern to western side and there are three main drains which is also called the Badshapur drain.
