New Delhi: Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has written a letter to Union Electronics and the Minister of Information Technology Ashwaini Vaishnaw demands an urgent and strict action against “demeaning applications” that are degrading and targeting.
He has asked for steps to handle such disturbances to ensure that they are not tolerated in this country.
In the letter it was written on Friday, Chaturvedi tried to bring to the minister note several recent incidents on women’s safety in cyberspace.
“A few months ago, a YouTube channel ‘Doge Liberal’ runs a” auction “directly from a woman owned by a particular community.
People bid and judge women based on their physical appearance and write demeaning comments,” he said.
Chaturvedi said recently, the pictures of several women had been uploaded without their knowledge or approval on an application called ‘Sulli Deals’ who had posted pictures of several women from various professions, including journalists, sourced from their social media websites.
Rajya Sabha MP said the women targeted at the application facing threats, embarrassing, and harassment after their photos had been installed without approval.
The purpose of this application is to reduce and embarrass women belonging to a particular community.
Chaturvedi, who is also the National Spokesman for Shiv Sena, said, “This terrible incident has made women get hurt and problematic.
Some women since then delete their social media accounts and many others say they are afraid of further abuse.” He said abuse Social and digital media to harass and attack the dignity of a disappointing woman.
In a country where women have struggled with gender bias, these incidents are again lying in female protection and safety, especially in cyberspace, he added.
Shiv leader Sena said even though Delhi and Noida police had regarded cases, there was no real progress that had been made so far.
The lack of a strict and efficient legislation of prevention and prevention for such cases only motivates the perpetrators, he added.
“It hurts me to see that almost no movement in connection with this case has been taken until now regardless of his seriousness,” Chaturvedi said.
