Taliban asked Chinese assistance to get international recognition

KABUL: Taliban seeks Chinese assistance in obtaining Islamic Emirates’s government officially recognized by the international community, an important step that can help Afghanistan access around $ 9 billion in frozen reserves abroad.
“All the conditions of the international community needed for recognition have been fulfilled,” Bilal Karimi, a Taliban spokesman deputy, said by telephone on Monday.
“The Islamic Emirates want China to lead to help the government currently achieve international recognition.” The US, its allies, and even Russia and China have not recognized the Taliban government because of fears of sustainable relations with terrorism and violations of human rights and prohibiting women’s education.
Several members of the Taliban Cabinet were blacklisted under US sanctions and the United Nations.
Because of taking power in August, the Taliban insisted that they had made progress with promises to let women learn and work, prevent the country from being used for terror activities and forming inclusive government.
Meeting this condition can help group closer to get international recognition even though in reality it is difficult to achieve.
Preventing the Taliban’s efforts to secure international recognition has made it difficult for the Afghan government to gain access to reserves, which can help relieve the cash crisis in Afghanistan.
The United Nations has warned that more than half of the country’s population faced acute hunger and almost all Afghans could live in poverty in mid 2022.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Taliban who acted Sirajuddin Haqqani met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu during the weekend, requested support China in getting official recognition.
The two officials pointed to the US because they blocked Taliban access to reserves held at US and European banks.
“The United States should not take revenge against Afghanistan through economic sanctions,” Wang told Haqqani, according to a series of tweets posted by the Deputy Spokesman for Taliban Samangani.
Wang added that the US “should not use inclusive government problems, human rights and freedom of expression as a tool or pretext” to press the Taliban.
Haqqani, who remained on the list of the most sought-sought FBI, thanked China for direct and sustainable humanitarian assistance to the Taliban government and urged Beijing to “work with Afghanistan to admit it.” Wang said in a tweet after the meeting that China respected the Taliban for pursuing its own government based on cultural and religious values, without making commitment.
The US said the last month will bypass the Taliban and expand the way the Humanitarian Assistance Group can help alleviate the deteriorating food crisis.
The plan is to directly inject in cash into the Afghan economy while avoiding the Taliban-controlled government ministry.
The move occurred before the United Nations made the latest funding from a record $ 5 billion in assistance that would reach more than half of 40 million Afghans to “overcome the level of direct and disaster needs.” The US also planned to provide $ 308 million to the country.
