Kabul: Former President Hamid Karzai said that the Taliban needed national legitimacy to obtain recognition by the international community.
In an interview with Voice of America (VOA), he suggested the Taliban to get national legitimacy through general elections or by holding Loya Jirga (a National Grand Assembly), reporting Tolo news.
Furthermore, Karzai also said the Islamic Emirates must have a constitution to run the country.
“National legitimacy and important international recognition.
Steps must be taken, and the first step must pave the way for national legitimacy through Loya Jirga or enforce the Afghan Constitution.
National legitimacy is obtained either through general elections or by holding Loya Jirga,” he said.
Karzai also said that Pakistan could not interfere in the internal affairs of Kabul.
He stated that Pakistan must base his relationship with Afghanistan about international norms and principles, adding that it cannot represent Afghanistan, report Tolo news.
“These days of Pakistan speak by way as if it represents us.
No, Pakistan is not a representative of Afghanistan or its people,” he added.
Meanwhile, a number of analyst international relations said that he held Loya Jirga was not practical at this time and that the world had to find an alternative way to engage with the Islamic Emirates, reporting Tolo news.
“At present there is no government that recognizes the Taliban government and this is bad for the people because people live in poverty.
The world must be involved with the Government (Emirate Islam),” said Ahmad Khan Andar, an analyst at International Relations.
“In the current bad economic situation, the government cannot hold Loya Jirga.
Another alternative must be sought for international recognition,” said Khawja Fahim Abbas, a university lecturer.
