Kabul: Afghan Acting Prime Minister, Mullah Hasan Akhund, on Wednesday called on the international government to officially recognize the country’s Taliban government, by telling a press conference in Kabul that all conditions have been fulfilled.
“I asked all the governments, especially Islamic countries, that they had to start confession,” said Akhund, in his first major public broadcast appearance since he took a role in September.
Foreign power has been reluctant to recognize the Taliban government which took over Afghanistan in August while Western countries led by the United States have billions of dollars that freeze Afghan banking assets and cut development funds that have ever formed the backbone of the Afghan economy.
Akhund and other Taliban administration officials appeal at a press conference, also attended by the United Nations officials, to loosen restrictions on money to the country, blaming the economic crisis that developed in freezing funds.
“Short-term assistance is not a solution; we must try to find a way to solve the problem fundamentally,” he said.
The international community has increased humanitarian assistance, designed to address urgent needs and mostly bypass official channels.
But when the country faces crunch cash and the economy that worsens the hard winter, millions of people have plunged into poverty.
