KABUL: The Taliban authorities promised to improve security in Shia Mosques after the second attack of Islamic countries a week about worshipers killing more than 40 people in the city of Kandahar in Afghanistan on Friday.
The Islamic State of the Sunni Hardline Group claimed the responsibility for the attack on the Fatima Mosque in Kandahar who saw a group of suicide bombers shot into the mosque before blowing themselves.
A health official said the victim of the victim was stood in 41 dead and 70 injured but the victim could still rise further.
“Some injured are in critical condition and we try to transfer it to Kabul,” he said.
Police Chief Kandahar said the unit would be assigned to protect the Shiite mosque which has so far been guarded by local volunteers with special permission to carry weapons.
“Unfortunately they cannot protect this area and in the future we will assign special security guards for the protection of mosques and madrasas,” he said in a statement posted on Twitter by a Taliban spokesman.
The attack on the Fatima Mosque, the largest Shiite Mosque in Kandahar, also known as Imam Bargah Mosque, came a week after a similar attack in a mosque in the northern city of Kunduz, which killed 80 people.
Attack on the mosque and the Shia target associated with the ethnic minority Hazara, which formed the largest Shiite group in Afghanistan, was a routine incidence under former Western-supported government.
There was a deep surprise because the attack continued since the Taliban won power in August, tarnishing the claims of movement had brought peace to Afghanistan after decades of war.
Since takeover, the Islamic State has conducted dozens of operations, from small-scale attacks on the Taliban target of large-scale operations such as Friday’s suicide bombings, killing a number of civilians.
