Kabul: As Taliban captured the main cities of the Afghan government, terror groups have released nearly 1000 criminals, drug traders, among others from at least six cities controlled in the past few days.
Taliban has released more than 1,000 prisoners from prison after the takeover of six cities recently in the past few days, the news of Tolo Afghanistan quoted officials from the Prison Administration Directorate told Wednesday.
“Most of them were sentenced to criminal punishment – drug smuggling, abduction and armed robbery,” said Director of Administration in Safiullah Jalalzai.
At least 630 prisoners in Kunduz – among them 13 women and three foreigners – were released from prison by the Taliban.
From that number, 180 was Taliban terrorists including 15 famous Taliban inmates who had been sentenced to death by the Afghan government, Tolo News reported.
The Taliban also released at least 350 prisoners in the city of Zaraj Nimroz Province, including 40 Taliban inmates.
However, the Afghan government has said that once the terrorists are arrested, the detainees will be arrested again.
