Kabul / Peshawar: Taliban have formed a commission to cleanse the “people of the bad character” of their ranks to protect Afghanistan’s reputation, the group said on Tuesday, in the latest sign that it tried to change from the rebellion into a regular government.
The Taliban operated as rebel fighters for two decades before taking a west-supported government in August.
In Audio Recording, Deputy Chairperson of the Taliban and Interior Minister Afghanistan Sirajuddin Haqqani said: “We are studying that people from bad characters have entered (Taliban) ranked (Taliban) and have caused his bad name to the Islamic Emirates (Afghanistan) and serve Their interests.
“” It is our humble hope that there must be a small number of people but they must be pure and sincere that this movement should not be damaged, “he said in the audio, whose authenticity was confirmed by Taliban officials.
Reports on social media have alleged that people who identify themselves as members of the Taliban have carried out a number of attacks on civilians and former members of government security forces who were overthrown since August, even though Taliban leadership announced public amnesty.
Taliban officials have repeatedly denied sanctions on these actions.
Haqqani, who has never been described in public, is also the head of the Haqqani network that conducts some of the most brutal attacks from the 20-year rebellion.
Commission – called commission for Ranking Purification – has been formed under the Ministry of Defense, led by Mullah Yaqoob, son of the Founder of Taliban Mullah Omar.
Haqqani said the commission formation was needed.
“I want to ask our brothers to cooperate with the commission and do not protect or support every individual with poor character on the basis of personal friendship,” he said.
