KABUL: Taliban won the third largest city of Afghanistan and the capital of a strategic province near Kabul on Thursday, increasingly squeezing the country’s government only weeks before the end of the American military mission there.
Herat seizures marked the biggest gift but for the Taliban, who had taken 11 of the 34 Afghan provincial capital as part of Blitz Weeklong.
Ghazni’s arrest, meanwhile, cut an important highway that connects the Afghan capital with the southern province of the country, which is similar to the attack as part of the rebel push of around 20 years after the Taliban forces and overthrow the Taliban government.
While Kabul itself is indirectly under threat, losses and battles elsewhere increasingly tightened the grip of the risen Taliban which is expected to now hold around two-thirds of the nation.
Thousands of people have fled their homes amid fears, the Taliban will again impose a brutal and repressive government, all except to eliminate women’s rights and carry out public amputations, pounds and execution.
Peace talks in Qatar remain stalled, even though diplomats meet all day.
The latest US military intelligence assessment shows Kabul can be under rebel pressure within 30 days and that, if the trend is currently surviving, the Taliban can obtain full control of the country in a few months.
The Afghan government can ultimately be forced to retreat to defend the capital and only a few other cities in the coming days if the Taliban preset their momentum.
The attack represents the collapse of the amazing Afghan forces and renewed questions about where more than $ 830 billion was spent by the US Department of Defense on the battle, trained the troops, and the reconstruction efforts went – especially as Taliban fighters rising with Humvee and American truck pickups with M- 16 Slung across their shoulders.
Afghan security forces and the government have not responded to repeated questions from journalists during the days of battle, instead of issuing a video communique that underestimated the face of the Taliban.
