Pune: Taliye Village in Raigad Regency in Maharashtra was not identified as a landslide prone but the tragedy occurred because of excessive rain, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Saturday.
Prima Facie, at least 37 people lost their lives because of landslides in Tatiye Village on Thursday night, according to officials.
Speaking to reporters, Pawar also said 90,000 people were evacuated for safety so far from nine districts in Maharashtra affected by heavy rain.
He said 21 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have worked with 14 army teams, coast guards and others in the district that destroyed the rain.
In addition, four teams of state disaster response (SDRF) also joined the evacuation operation.
