NEW DELHI: To each of the doubts expressed concerning reliability of electronic voting machines in time to time, for example by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in letters composed by the Election Commission both before and during the recent assembly polls, the tallying of VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trail) slips and EVM count in most 822 constituencies throughout four countries and a Union Territory threw up a 100 percent game.
According to closing reports obtained by EC,”a great fit” was discovered between the amount of paper slides from all of the 4,412 VVPATs, such as 4,210 VVPATs where tallying was performed in assembly surveys and 202 VVPATs from the bye-elections, along with also the corresponding EVM count.
According to instructions of the Supreme Court, VVPAT-EVM tallying is performed for five polling stalls per gathering section.
EC sources advised TOI that tallying with EVM count has been performed with regard to 1,492 VVPATs at West Bengal, 1,183 VVPATs at Tamil Nadu, 728 at Kerala, 647 at Assam and 156 at Puducherry.
In the same way, paper course from a complete 202 VVPATs were coordinated for bye-elections in four different constituencies — Tirupathi at Andhra Pradesh, Belgaum in Karnataka, Mallappuram at Kerala and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu — also 12 assembly constituencies throughout nine countries.
“The 100 percent game of VVPAT slides and EVM result for the current assembly polls and bypolls farther confirms the accuracy and trustworthiness of this EVMs,” a senior EC functionary told TOI.
Even the EVM-VVPAT tally has matched to many polls held because the clinic has been launched, however eight cases of mismatch, such as seven with a gap of 1-4 votes and also among 34 votes, had been reported at the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
A technical team was tasked with EC to examine the probable glitches on the other side of the mismatch, although the findings have never been put in the public domain.
