PS Vinothraj’s Directorial ‘Koozhangal’ (Pebbles) has been chosen as an official Indian entry to the 94th Academy Award.
Shaji N Karun, Chair of the Selection Committee of 15 members, announced a decision while the Indian Film Federation (FFI) Secretary General Supran Sen confirmed that the decision was round.
The Academy Awards for 2021 will be held on March 27, 2022, in Los Angeles.
Speaking of the selection, Shaji N Karun said, “In the year facing Satyajit Ray, it was rather poetic that we had screening in Kolkata.
Ray is the Torchbearer of Indian content to the world and we will try to choose a film that symbolizes Indianness and culture varying”.
‘Koozhangal’, based on the relationship between an alcoholic father and his son and followed their joint journey to bring back his wife / mother who had gone to his father’s house, based on a real incident that took place in Director of Vinothraj’s family, inspired him to play it to be a story for debut film.
This feature has won a prestigious Tiger award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival held in the Netherlands earlier this year.
This film has been delivered by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan and music leading by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The film must beat 14 others from the entire country who are running to be sent to Oscar, including Amit Masurkar’s Vidya Balan-Starrer ‘Sherni’ and Shoejoit Sircar SIRCAR Singh Biopic Starring Vicky Kaushal, Sidharth Malhotra-Starrer Captain Vikram Batra Biopic, ‘Kaagaz’ displays Tripathi Pankaj, and Farhan Akhtar sports film, ‘Toofan’ from the Hindi film industry.
In addition, Tamil ‘Mandela’ film, Marathi ‘Aata Vel Zaali’ film, ‘Karkanisancha Waari’ and ‘Godavari’, Assamese ‘Bridge film, Gujrati Film’ Show Chhello ‘, Malayalam’ Laila Aur Satt ‘film Geets is also running and Played in the Kolkata Bijoli Cinema where the filtering process takes place.
