Tamil Nadu: 7 of 24 AEFSI cases related to vaccination

Chennai: Seven of the 24 people who reported severe side effects after the immunization case (AEFI) in the country had ‘a’ side effects after vaccination Covid-19, according to the victim’s assessment report by the Ministry of Health, accessed by TOI.
While three of these seven patients have a side effect of the ‘A1’ category (directly connected with vaccines), four patients have the side effect of the ‘A4’ category (anxiety reaction related to immunization).
Among patients in category A1, a 33-year-old man has ‘anaphylacil’, a life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs several minutes after exposure to something allergic.
A 41-year-old child faces ‘acute fever’, the emergence of fever is quickly accompanied by headaches, cold or muscle and joint pain, which can also last for days.
A 21-year-old child has vomiting and giddiness.
All patients this category has been repatriated after hospitalization.
Virologically Dr.
Jacob John said while it was a welcome step by the National AEFI Committee to provide an idea of the possibility of reaction to vaccines, data quality and completeness were not convincing.
“We don’t know whether this shows the real picture and the amount of AEFI case.
This opens up many more questions about whether we caught quite a lot of AEFI cases and if there is an existing system to choose a case,” he said.
Specialist infectious diseases with Apollo Hospital Dr.
Ram Gopalakrishnan said 30-minute follow-up may not be enough because some reactions can occur after a few days.
“We need follow-up to four weeks.
The government needs to maintain addresses, detailing telephone numbers from all patients who are vaccinated and regularly follow them through calls or SMS,” he said.
Dr.
Gopalakrishnan but said except for anaphylaxis, the rest of the reaction mentioned by the committee was not a serious one.
“Anaphylaxis is very serious because blood pressure goes down and throat is clogged instantly.
Anxiety reactions are not related to medical reactions but psychological.
Fever reactions are also harmless and may subside,” he said.
Specialist Infectious Diseases from Subramanian Swaminathan Gleneagles Global Health City said that if the vaccination protocol was strictly followed, incidents related to post-vaccination anxations could be avoided.
