Changing the focases to renewable energy sources, the state government has decided to increase the capacity of 17,980 million power plants in the next 10 years.
This step aims to reduce the purchase of high-cost power carried out by Tangedco from the private electricity exchange and private generator, said the State Minister of State Planivel Thiaga Rajan in the Assembly on Friday while presenting the state budget.
Purchases of high power contribute almost half of the discode expenditure every year.
The state government also tends to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Indian renewable energy development agency, an Indian company company, for consulting services in the renewable energy sector.
While the average demand for the country is around 15,000 MW, the installed capacity of the Tangedco thermal power plant is only 4,320mW.
From them, 12 thermal units, which produce 2,520mW, are more than 25 years old and need to be replaced immediately.
The country depends more on the main producing stations and private generators to provide power supply without interruption, which means more funds to fulfill payment obligations.
Even the central producing station only supplies 4,500mW even though they are committed to supplying 6,000 MW according to the agreement with the state.
It resulted in Tangedco to purchase high-cost private power, which leads to a large financial burden.
“The DMK government is interested in investing more on renewable energy sources such as the Sun and Hydel, and the gas in the next five years to reduce high-power purchases.
The initial estimate is that Tangedco must raise more than? 1 lakh crore for this,” said the source tall.
With environmental problems submitted against thermal plants globally, the government considers the best solar bets projects because it comes at a lower level than other sources.
The plan is also to cover all districts where feasibility for high solar parks and integrate sources for better transmission.
Because solar power plants only take place during the day, it must be associated with sources such as hydel and gas-based power generators to provide power supply without interruption at night.
After the generation of solar projects begin, the purchase of electricity from a private generator will decrease, which will produce a large savings for the diskomy.
Until now, Tangedco paid loans with interest ranging from 9.5% to 13.5% per year.
“With Ireda showing Keenness in offering its advisory support, the State will soon sign an agreement to better understand the renewable energy sector, dynamics, analyze developing policies and regulatory landscapes for projects and measure technology plans and adoptions,” another source said, “said another source) .
Ptr On Friday said a strategic study of Tangedco and Tantransco governance and financial restructuring would be carried out.
The government will act quickly on the findings to change the utility and save them from collapsing.
