CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu school education department on Wednesday released the schedule for RTE admissions in private schools for 2021-22.
As per the schedule, the parents can apply online from July 5 to August 3.
The applications can be registered on the website rte.tnschools-.gov.in Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the officials expect more applications under this category this year.
As per the Right to Education (RTE) At, private schools have to reserve 25% seats at entry level to socially and economically backward students in the neighbourhood.
The directorate of matriculation schools said students living within 1 km radius of the private school can apply under RTE Act.
Last year, 1.15 lakh seats were available in 8,000 private schools in the state.
Under the economically weaker section, those who have an annual income less than Rs.2 lakh can apply.
The state government also gives preference to disabled children, wards of sanitary workers and HIV infected in RTE admissions.
School education secretary Kakarla Usha asked the private schools to prepare details like entry level intake and 25% seats reserved under RTE act on June 24.
Private schools shall display the number of seats at the school notice board and upload the details at the school education department’s website by July 2.
Online applications can be registered from July 5 to August 3.
Schools also need to display the eligible applicants and names of ineligible applicants, reasons for rejections separately by August 9.
If the eligible applicants are more than the available seats under the RTE quota, then the schools should resort to random selection of students on August 10.
