Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has stated holidays for all government offices and educational institutions on January 17 (Monday).
On the contrary, January 29 (Saturday) will be a working day of compensation, the government’s order issued here on Tuesday said.
Development came after representation of trade unions that were looking for a vacation on Monday (January 17) since January 18 (Tuesday) is a government holiday considering ThaiPoosam and there will be total locking on Sunday (January 16).
Holidays on Monday will help many government employees return to their work after celebrating Pongal in their original places.
