Chennai: On the lines of many other southern states, Tamil Nadu was too quietly buried plans to get a new electric bus through the adoption and manufacturing of the Union government.
Last year, the Ministry of Union for the heavy industry approved sanctions 525 ebus for coimbatore, salem, tirupur, erode, vellore, trichy, villupuram, and thanjavur under the second phase Fame scheme.
Under this scheme, the Ministry of the Union promised to subsidize Rs 35 Lakh to RS 55 lakh per bus depending on the body’s body length and the charging infrastructure needed to keep the vehicle run.
“The amount of subsidies is not far close to the price of an electric bus,” said a senior state transportation department official with anonymity requirements.
For example, the 12 meter e-bus will cost at least ₹ 1.2 crore and initial estimates suggest that the state will experience more than 20 perm losses.
Also there is no clarity of battery replacement costs.
So, Tamil Nadu has no choice but to cancel the floating tender in this case, officially more.
Another reason states far from the scheme of fame is the rigid opposition of transportation unions.
This scheme does not allow the government-managed transportation / business / business company to go for direct purchases.
It discouraged from investing massively on technology that still appeared.
Conversely, the stus will sign a gross cost contract with a successful bidder (private e-bus operator) and the operator will run it on the government route with his staff.
In addition to TN, the procurement of e-bus through the scheme of fame has climbed and almost impossible for countries such as Karnataka, who recently left for the fifth round of tenders, Kerala and Telangana.
With a proposal for suspended fame in TN, all eyes returned in German funding (KFW Bank) to get 500 vehicles operated with batteries for Chennai and other parts of the country.
KFW and TN will share the cost of each bus with a base 80:20.
The government has associated in two consultants to prepare for a request for a proposal for the tender to be wilped later this year.
