Chennai: Former Deputy Tahsildar and his subordinates were found guilty of charges of graft by a special court in the Chengelpet district.
Both of them were sentenced to four years in prison with a special court after being held that prosecution proved all charges against them.
Revenue officers have demanded RS5,000 bribes from someone because they carry out their duties and subordinates have received the amount of official instructions.
Officials accused of J Selvam and M Kuppusamy worked as Deputy Tahsildar and record officers in Taluk Officers in Uthiramerur between January 2012 and January 2013.
According to prosecution, in the second week of December 2012, someone had approached Selvam to issue adangal – – the type of income record that contains Details of land, area, ownership, liabilities, and other details – where income officials have demanded bribery other than legal remuneration.
Not wanting to pay bribery, the complainant approached the vigilance and anti-corruption police in Kancheepuram who put the trap and arrested the officer while collecting the soaked chemical currency notes as referred to in Deputy Tahsildar.
