Tamil Nadu: Five Camel Dies at Vandalur Zoo

Chennai: Five ordinary ostriches (Struthio Camelus) falls dead at home at Park Zoology Arignar Anna on Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Forestry, birds that cannot fly remain unhealthy and medium in care.
A team of veterinary universities and Tamil Nadu science animals present during care, do postmortem on birds along with veterinarians.
Initial investigations reveal birds can die of hemorrhagic and pneumonia entities as revealed in postmortem.
They collected samples for bacteriology, virology and toxicology.
The swabs were also collected from the carcass to check bird flu.
Samples have been sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal.
Veterinarians also examined blood stains and the impression of the smear organ to override cholera poultry.
This is the first time the birds that can’t fly are dying in captivity at the vandalur zoo.
At present the 34 bird zoo house, including sub-adults.
Before the death of five birds, the zoo had a very good ostrich population.
The poultry unit and bird preparation from the livestock department in Katupakkam held the first ostrich pair in 2009.
Two years later, the birds put around a dozen eggs in the zoo.
Eggs were incubated for about 45 days after six chicks were born.
This is the first Indian zoo where ostrich eggs managed to hatch.
A former zoo official said that the natural conditions close in their cages helped breed and put eggs.
Since then, the zoo always has ostrich children every year.
Only a few days ago, the zoo also recorded the death of a 19-year-old Kavitha Singaah who died of old age and senility.
