Chennai: Majelis Tamil Nadu on Wednesday issued a resolution urging the center to revoke the citizenship law (Amendment), 2019.
Chairman of the Constitutional Court of MK Stalin said laws imposed by parliament were not in harmony with secular principles set out in the constitution and not.
Conducive for communal harmony applies in this country.
AIDMK’s main opposition was not present at home when the resolution passed, while BJP walked out in protest.
The resolution transferred by Stalin said, “In accordance with the principles of democracy, a country must be ruled by considering the aspirations and concerns of people belonging to all parts of society.
But it is clear that the citizenship law (amendments) is continued in such a way that it is not In accordance with the warm support for refugees consider their situation, but instead discriminate against them in accordance with their religion and country of origin.
“The Assembly decided to urge the United States to revoke the law to protect and ensure communal unity and harmony in the country and to enforce the principle -The secular principles are enshrined in the constitution.
When the house leader, Durai Murugan said the opposition, Aiadmk, “run” from home, because they did not have the courage to oppose (CAA), Stalin intervened to fix it and said AIADMK “did not have the courage to support the resolution”.
The union government must fully leave the task of preparing a list of national residents as an extension of the amendment of the citizenship law, said Minister of Chief.
DMK, in the election manifesto, has promised to provide resolution against CAA.
“If those who from Pakistan and Afghanistan can come, why ban Lanka? This is the biggest betrayal against Lanka Tamils, who cannot live in their country and run away to Tamil Nadu, who lives in rehabilitation camps and outside.
Invite this take their rights, who do not want to return to their country, and want to get citizenship in India.
This law discriminates ethnic-based people, “Stalin said.
The minister’s chairman said the citizenship was the legal right of every human being and added that citizenship must be given to all those who live in the country.
The government cannot deny legal equality and protection to anyone, every citizen, in the country, he said.
“According to the citizenship law, 1955, religion is not the basis for obtaining citizenship.
But, the amendment, which was brought by the Workers Government, had made a basis religion,” he said.
When the Constitution said that India was a secular nation, the law could not be applied based on religion, Stalin said.
Citizenship Act (Amendment), 2019, seeks to make migrants, Hindus, Sikh, Buddhism, Jain, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, qualify for citizenship.
“But Muslims are deliberately eliminated.
DMK opposes the law at the initial stage itself for dividing people by religion,” said Minister of Chief.
The DMK has urged the previous AIDMK government to provide resolution against CAA in the Assembly ahead of the union government who enacted the law, but the latter did not agree.
DMK and his allies chose to oppose the bill in parliament.
“Discrimination against refugees has lost their lives and cannot live in their own country such as lowering them for greater misery,” Stalin said.
Stalin said India’s independence was reached because everyone fought together from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari.
The BJP floor leader Nainar Nagendran said the law did not oppose Muslims.
Under the 1950 Nehru-Liaquat agreement, India and Pakistan must ensure minority rights.
While India has followed that, Hindus and other minorities in Pakistan, consisting of 20% at the time of the partition, has decreased to 3% now.
“Minority rights are influenced in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and they can come to India,” Nagendran said.
Welcoming the resolution, the leader of the floor PMK G K Myi said that denying citizenship to Sri Natan Tamil in India was a big shock.
“They must also be protected,” he said.
Durai Murugan said the resolution was not to oppose the trade union government.
Citing the former head of the head M grouse, he said, “We oppose anything that must be opposed and support what must be supported”.
