Chennai: The powerful DMK and PMK on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court, challenging the command of the Madras High Court which attacked the 10.5 percent quota expanded to the Vanniiyakula Kshatriya (Vanniyar) community in the 20 percent MBC quota.
The government said the law was ratified in accordance with the constitutional provisions and procedural formalities followed for sub-classifications.
Ramados leader PMK submitted a separate petition.
The special leave petition submitted by the State Government said the law was applied based on adequate and authenticated data about the backest class population (MBC) and the Denotification Community (DC) mentioned by the second BACKWARD class commission Tamil Nadu led by Ja Ambankankar 1983 .
The Commission submitted a report to the government in 1985 after 100% door-to-door enumeration from the population of the entire state.
“Caste-wise population data expressed by the Ambankar Commission is the only data that is authenticated that is available at this time before the country and the data can be used effectively to plan sub-classifications in classes backwards,” the front of Der Kandan said.
In his petition, Ramadoss said the High Court had made a big mistake in holding that Vannyar reservation was disproportionate with their population.
The court was completely wrong in applying the ratio of maratha reservation cases because Vanniyar quota was only to provide special reservations in existing reservations.
