Chennai: The State Health Department will open special care and environmental care centers and increase the “sequalae” clinic in medical college hospitals for people who have recovered from Covid-19.
While almost 97% of people tested positive for viral infections have been removed from the country’s registry, many people have not fully recovered.
Many patients struggle to overcome various symptoms of residue such as pain and fatigue after recovery.
The doctor in the emergency room also said there was an increase in the number of people driven by strokes, heart attacks and lumps that threaten the lives in blood vessels.
Some people experience chronic conditions such as diabetes or lung disease which can cause long-term care, said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
Covid Government Hospital, an exclusive 600 bed at the King Institute campus in Guindy, will open a comprehensive post-covid care center with outpatient units, testing facilities, inpatient services and rehabilitation.
This facility will be inaugurated by the head of Minister M K Stalin this week.
“Post-Covid complications will be one of the largest public health problems.
We have treated thousands of people in our hospital and we want to make sure they have access to quality care after recovery,” said Director of Hospital Dr.
Narayanaswamy.
The state has also improved post-covid clinic services in all medical colleges.
“We see a lot of patients with poor lungs and breathing after fighting with Covid for a long time.
We have senior pulmonologists, diabetologists, cardiologists, and neurologists posted in the clinic.
