Chennai: Fresh cases in Chennai rose from 106 cases on Friday compared to 122 cases on Saturday, when the country reported 862 cases compared to 875 on Friday.
Chennai is also the only district to report a case in three digits, when the country reported ten deaths, issuing 1,009 patients and reported 10,588 people in the registry of the active case.
Public health officials say it will be too early to associate spikes to the festival, although they do not completely rule out the possibility of increasing clusters.
“There may be delays in consultation and testing during festival days, which can push the case a little.
But the lack of masks and social distances combined with vaccine doubts can push the case,” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
Over the past two weeks, the test level of testing has been below 1% indicating no transmission surge, he said.
At least 26 districts reported less than 20 cases on Saturday, each of the 19 districts reported less than 10 cases.
After Chennai, Coimbatore reported 99 new cases followed by Chengalpet (79) and Erode (67).
Of the ten deaths reported in the state, there were three in Coimbatore, two in Thanjavur and each in Chennai, eroded, trichy, karur and vellore.
On Saturday, 31 of the 30 districts reported no death.
