Udhagamandalam: With a house for 103 tigers, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve has achieved his saturation when it comes to the tiger population, according to Deputy Director of the MTR-Core Zone C H Padma.
“There must be an increase in the tiger population in MTR since the last survey in 2018.
We can say that MTR is saturated in terms of tiger populations.
Increasing the number of tiger population will be accommodated in an abundant area such as Mukurthi National Park and the Nilgiris and Gudalur Forest Division,” said Padma , MTR is home to the largest tiger density between five reserves in the state.
Tigers retain their territory.
It is recommended that the minimum area for female tigers is around 10-15 square kilometers while 50-60 square kilometers for male tigers.
While the total area of the MTR is 688.59 square kilometers, the core area is 321 square kilometers.
In addition to 103 tigers (according to the NTCA report 2018-19) at the MTR, the forest forest nilgiris division is around 20 tigers and the Gudalur division is home to around five tigers.
Mukurthi National Park accommodates at least 13 tigers, according to forest officials.
